this morning
found these tiny little sparrow feet (either house or english)
and i didn't even have to use my knife!!
my guess is the black cat of the city night
had an early morning snack-
thanks for the leftovers kitty!
another thanks to my cleo who left me a bedroom full of tiny shimmering
feathers after finally catching a hummingbird.
i hope i don't find the head in my closet or something.
or wait maybe i do!

black and yellow
found some bees today. it's been a while. made me happy.
i'm going to l.a. for the weekend for some art goodness and maybe even scope out a spot for "the dream space".
there's so many options now and got to keep 'em all open because you never know what might happen.
everything's crystal clear now and i can finally mourn, move on, and be somebody.
she wouldn't have had it any other way.

she's dying
6 days in the hospital
i remember how i forgot she sleeps with one eye open
i can barely tell my own two are so wet
the past, the present, the future
it's all laying right there in front of me
so beautiful, so hard to see
wine makes the night possible
the horses chuff and sunset songs ease the pain
mine but not hers
you hope and encourage
sometimes wonder if you're selfish
reading from the comedy i bought accidentally about death
the irony, the infatuation, the aprropriateness
letting go to let go letting go

stumptown

just got back from my first trip to portland OR and it was a really great time. i don't know if i could live there but i would visit again in a heart beat. we ate fresh alaskan salmon and marionberry pie at a barbecue our first day. holy shit that was some good food! we played "washers" which is just like horseshoes and i chased the yellow lab around the yard and made some farting noises for the kids. that night we went to another less civilized barbecue and put on a bunch of temporary tattoos and listened to missy elliot around the fire drinking cheap wine. then we went to a basement metal show at some random warehouse and finished the fun at the belgian fry cart-i had mine smothered in gravy and topped with cheese curds-poutine they call it. good stuff.
the next day we headed to the coast-we hiked from cannon beach where they filmed part of the goonies to indian beach on the other side through a magical forest. i was in my element and happier than a pig in shit. every sense of mine was kicked back to life. it was cool and crisp, big and gentle and smelled like home. it was amazing and beautiful. we played at the beach when we got there and poked at sea anenomies and star fish and crabs. quite possibly the best hike ever!
i didn't get to do all the things on my little list like visit the art museum and the rose garden, and thanks to dad who lived there as a runaway in the '60s didn't "get micky-ed and kidnapped in the shanghai tunnels". i did enjoy being lost in powell's and eating a vegan doughnut topped with tang. falling asleep to e.t. in the "luxury" hotel bed and splurging on a piece of jewelry for myself. i was slightly dissapointed with my coffee experience but fresh herbs and juice that went into my booze made me forget.
thanks portland, sorry i didn't get to visit one of your 150 strip clubs but i'm pretty sure i'll be back.

found a pretty carpenter bee lying dead on the sidewalk at 3 in the morning. it was dark. i wasn't tired. i was glad to have found her. i went and saw sam mendes' new film away we go, it was really sweet. it made me want to be in love. it made me sad and nostalgic. i wonder if i'll ever have the problems some of them had. i hope so. as long as i'm not alone.

home grown revolution www.homegrownevolution.com
i'm guilty of being nostalgic but i can't help but think that this knowledge, these skills used to be second nature to generations before our grandparents, say.
i know my grandma grew up in point loma eating chickens and their eggs from her backyard as well as the vegetables and fruit from their many trees. they were poor, they were from portugal. does this have anything to do with it? does knowing how to grow vegetables and fruit in your backyard have something to do with demographics like age, income, race, or location?

frowned upon
today i found the beehive demolished by the wind and rain. lying in pieces on the sidewalk, bees in puddles and scattered all around. there is a small piece of the hive still active on the limb but most of them were wearily wobbling on the ground or dead on the mud.
